Here are the practical ways for you to test the condition of the second hand solar panels.
Physical Appearance Inspection
1. Check the Frame
Check whether there are signs of deformation, cracks or corrosion on the frame of the second hand solar panels.
2. Check the glass surface of the used solar panels
Check whether there are scratches, cracks or stains on the glass surface of the second hand solar panels.
3. Check the solar cells of the solar panels
>>Please carefully observe whether the color of the solar cells is uniform. If there are obvious color differences, it may indicate that the aging degrees of the solar cells are inconsistent, thus affecting the performance of the used panel.
>>Then check whether there are black spots, white spots or other abnormal spots on the solar cells. These spots may all be manifestations of later – stage damage.
Electrical Performance Test
1. VOC Testing
You can use the multimeter to test the VOC of the used solar panels, do as following steps.
Step 1: Put the solar panels in direct sunlight;
Step 2: Take your multimeter, set it to DC voltage mode;
Step 3: Connect the multimeter to the solar module, the red lead to the negative pole, the black lead to the positive pole;
Step 4: Read the voltage value on the multimeter, then compare it to the rated voltage value we marked on the back side of the used solar panels. If the value is close to the rated voltage within 10% means the used solar PV panels are in good condition.
2. Isc Testing
Similarly, select a multimeter with an ampere – level range, and conduct a short – circuit current test on the second – hand solar panel in bright outdoor sunlight. After connecting the multimeter immediately, read the displayed value. Of course, the value measured under an illumination intensity of 1000W/m² will be the standard short – circuit current value.
Notes: When doing a short – circuit current test, since the solar panel is in a short – circuit state, the test time should be very short, long term short circuit should be avoided to prevent damage to the solar panel.
